Procrastination is a deadly enemy of all who would become leaders in any undertaking, and I will eliminate this habit from my makeup by:  Doing one definite thing each day, something that ought to be done, without anyone telling me to do it, that I have not been in the habit of doing, that will be of value to others without expectation of pay, that brings me closer to my definite chief aim.

Every day brings me a chance to render service, outside my regular duties, that will be of value to others.

You might be asking, okay you’ve been reviewing this book and giving us some gems from each chapter, but what are you doing with this information? What have you taken from it and applied to your life so far? Well, here goes, {my comments are in the brackets.}

Who said it couldn’t be done? And what great victory has he to his credit which qualifies him to judge others accurately?

Who told you it couldn’t be done? And what great achievement has he to his credit that entitles him to use the word “impossible” so freely? {Instead of accepting criticism, I am asking, what has the critic done lately? I am “critiquing” the critic. Were those words were spoken by someone who has done nothing with their life?}

This philosophy can be used by anyone to create their own success and realize their dreams.

There is nothing impossible with enough time. {I am taking these statements as truth for me and using it as the basis for my self-development for the rest of 2011 and 2012}

There is always plenty of capital available to those who can create practical plans for using it.

Never, in the history of the world, has there been such abundant opportunity as there is now for people like me who are willing to serve before trying to collect.

There are opportunities on every corner but they exist only for those who have ready money or who can command money because they have formed the habit of savings. {This is as true today as it was when Hill wrote this. I believe it, I act like it, and I am planning my next year on it}

Everything begins in the mind

My imagination can be cultivated, developed, extended, and broadened by use. {I am deliberately taking 15 minutes a day to imagine my life as I want it to be. As I have been doing this, my life is starting to change.}

The normal condition of the chemistry of my mind is the result of heredity and the nature of the thoughts which have dominated my mind.

My mind is continually changing to the extent that my philosophy and general habits of thought change the chemistry of my mind.

I can voluntarily change the chemistry of my mind so that it will attract or repel all with whom it comes in contact. {This is powerful! I can program my mind anyway I want! This is what I am focusing on for the next year}

Through the principle of autosuggestion, a deeply rooted desire saturates my entire body and mind with the nature of the desire and literally transforms my mind into a powerful magnet that attracts the object of the desire

Any idea I firmly fix in my subconscious mind, by repeated affirmations, automatically becomes a blueprint in directing my efforts forward to the attainment of the objective.

Any statement I repeatedly make to myself, or any desire I deeply plant in my mind through repeated statement, will eventually seek expression through my physical, outward, bodily efforts. {This is how I am re-programming my mind}

Any desire I persistently hold in my mind will eventually seek expression through some practical means of realizing it. {What I think about, I bring about}

Through the law of habit I fix my definite chief aim in my mind until it becomes firmly and permanently planted there.

This gives me a prosperity consciousness.

I prepare myself to receive and use my prosperity wisely. {Re-programming my mind}

I throw off the accumulated effects of a thousand generations of fear with autosuggestion

Once I master fear, I can continue on to successful achievement in practically any undertaking {reprogram my mind}

Knowledge becomes power only to the extent I organize it, classify it, and put it into action!

A good encyclopedia contains most of the known facts of the world.

But they are as useless a sand dune until organized and expressed in terms of action. {After re-programming my mind, this is my second objective: to use what I learn! Must work on this. My greatest shortcoming. I am great at accumulating knowledge, must work on implementation!}

Anyone can start but as a thoroughbred, I finish! {Re-program my mind, take action on my knowledge, finish what I start: my three objectives for 2012!}

I can always become the person I would have liked to be. {By focusing on my 3 objectives for 2012, I will be closer at the end of 2012 to who I want to be}

I believe that God provides me everything I need with which to succeed if I perform faithful and honest service.

I believe in prayer and I never close my eyes in sleep without praying for divine guidance

I believe that success is the result of intelligent effort and does not depend upon luck or sharp practices or double-crossing friends, fellow men, or my employer.

I believe I get out of life exactly what I put into it; therefore, I am careful to conduct myself toward others as I would want them to act toward me.

I render the best service of which I am capable because I have pledged myself to succeed in life and I know that success is always the result of conscientious and efficient effort.

I forgive those who offend me because I realize that I shall sometimes offend others and I will need their forgiveness. {quote of the day}

Day by day in every way, I am becoming more successful. {Quote of the day}

I think before I speak. My words can plant success or failure in someone’s life. {Okay, thinking before I speak is #4 on my list for 2012}

I take advantage of the law of increasing returns which ensures me a return in money far out of proportion to the service I render. (Already practiced this one, just keeping it on the list}

Savings conserves what I earn in a systematic manner

The habit of saving places me in the way of a greater opportunity and gives me vision, self-confidence, imagination, enthusiasm, initiative and leadership to actually increase my earning capacity. {I have always saved money “for” something: new set of tires, property taxes, vacation. You get the picture, I saved to spend. I did very little saving to invest in comparison to my saving to spend. That has changed. I now have a “saving to invest” fund and it will grow in 2012.}

I save a definite percentage of all I earn

As my earnings increase, my savings increase

I demand increased earning power from myself. {I have never “demanded” this of myself before. 2012 is going to be interesting!}

I have the habit of thinking and talking prosperity and abundance. {I have been “half-heartedly” working on this for many years, but for 2012 I am SERIOUSLY working on this!}

The only lasting favor which I as a parent may confer upon my child is that of helping him to help himself.

I am a human magnet. I am constantly attracting to me people whose character harmonizes with my own.

Who told you it couldn’t be done? And what great achievement has he to his credit that entitles him to use the word “impossible” so freely? {Isn’t this true? We hear someone say “it can’t be done” and automatically accept those words, when those words were spoken by someone who has done nothing with their life!}

Successful people have all failed many times

All sales people will do well to remember that no one wants anything that someone else is trying to get rid of.

I think before I speak. My words can plant success or failure in someone’s life

I am thankful for the adversities that have crossed my pathway for they have taught me tolerance, sympathy, self-control, perseverance, and some other virtues I might never have known.

I am fortunate to have learned that the most certain way to get is to first give through some sort of service.

Saving money is one of the essentials of success.

The saving of money is solely a matter of habit.

Through the law of habit, I shape my personality

Through repetition, any act indulged in a few times becomes a habit.

My mind is a mass of motivating factors growing out of my daily habits.

The accumulation of debit is a habit.

Debt is like quicksand – it has a tendency to draw its victim deeper and deeper into the mire.

The fear of poverty is one of the most destructive of the 6 basic fears

The fear of poverty breaks down the willpower of its victims and they then find themselves unable to restore their lost fortunes

Fear of poverty is a negative, destructive state of mind

I habitually save a regular portion of my income.

To attain financial independence I replaced spending with saving

Any habit may be discontinued by building in its place a more desirable habit.

The person without money is at the mercy of the one who has money

Reserve funds are essential in the successful operation of business.

Savings accounts are essential to individuals.

The nickels, dimes and pennies that the average person allows to slip through their fingers would, if systematically saved and put to work, eventually bring financial independence. {That $5 cup of coffee, the $1 any size drink so you get the large thinking you are getting something for nothing, the afternoon candy bar. Do that every day and you will be on a caffeine high, a sugar high, gain 20 pounds in a year and not know why, and definitely NOT any wealthier! The voice of experience is speaking!}

The making and saving of money is a science.

The rules for the accumulation of money are simple

The main requisite is a willingness to subordinate the present to the future by eliminating unnecessary expenditures for luxuries.

The savings habit requires self-control, self-confidence, courage, poise and freedom from fear

I am ruled by my own habits

By following a systematic habit of saving a definite proportion of all the money I earn or receive, I place myself in a position of financial independence

People who have formed the habit of saving are given preference in positions of responsibility

Opportunities Come To Those Who Have Saved Money

Behind every great fortune, at its beginning is a well developed habit of saving money

When I make an appointment with another person, I assume the responsibility of punctuality and that I do not have the right to be a single minute late. {It’s just a matter of respect, common courtesy, and not thinking your time is more valuable than theirs! Have you figured out, I hate to wait?!}

In my soul there has been deposited the seed of a great future.

That seed will never germinate, much less grow to maturity, except through the rendering of useful service.

The very seed of success is dormant in every defeat I experience.

Is it not strange that we fear most that which never happens?

We destroy our initiative by the fear of defeat.

I can always become the person I would have liked to be.

These 6 fears are mental states of mind

All I am came through physical and social heredity

Social heredity refers to the methods by which one generation passes on to the next generation superstitions, beliefs, legends and ideas

Through the law of social heredity, anyone having the control of the mind of a child may plant in the child’s mind any idea until he accepts it as true and becomes a part of the child’s personality as any cell or organ of his physical body

Indecision is the seedling of fear.

Indecision crystallizes into doubt and the two become fear

Nothing brings so much suffering and humiliation as poverty

Symptoms of fear:

Indifference (lack of ambition, laziness, etc)

Indecision

Doubt (expressed through alibis and excuses)

Worrying (expressed through faultfinding)

Overcaution (shown in general negativity)

Procrastination

Ill health can come from fear because all thought has a tendency to clothe itself in its physical equivalent

The most effective tool with which to fight fear is organized knowledge

Ignorance and fear are twins

I will resemble tomorrow the dominating thoughts I keep alive in my mind today. {I just looked in the mirror. I haven’t been thinking the right thoughts for a long time!}

I plant in my mind the seed of determination to whip my fears

My fears only exist in my mind.

Physical heredity: genetic predisposition

Social heredity: social conditioning or socialization

Social heredity refers to all methods through which a child is taught any idea, dogma, creed, religion, or system of ethical conduct, by its parents or by those who may have authority over it, before reaching the age at which it may reason and reflect upon such teaching in its own way

Autosuggestion is the most available force for personal growth and self-improvement

The dominating thoughts of my mind attract others whose thoughts that are similar

I make it my business to fill my mind with dominating thoughts of optimism, good cheer, and faith in others.

Through the Law of Attraction I draw to myself the attention of people whose attitudes toward life and dominating thoughts harmonize with mine

Inaction leads to atrophy and in turn to loss of ambition and self-confidence

Therefore, I will concentrate my mind for thirty minutes daily on the task of thinking of the person I intend to be, by creating a mental picture of this person and then transforming that picture into reality through my actions.

I have clearly mapped out, and written down, a description of my Definite Purpose in life, for the next five years. {Have you done this? Do you know where you want to be?}

Habit grows out of environment

Over and over again

Habits are well-formed through repetition of thought or action

Habit is created by repeatedly directing one or more of my senses in a given direction.

After a habit has been well established, it automatically controls and directs my bodily activity

I direct my efforts and my thoughts along a desired line until I have formed the habit that will take hold and continue to direct my efforts along the same line.

If I can run a losing race without blaming my loss on someone else, I have bright prospects of success further down the road in life. {Must take responsibility}

The act of writing down what I think or dream prompts my mind to make leaps of insight and create original ideas.

Humility is a forerunner of success.

I organize and make use of much truth that is overlooked by the majority of people who through life as mediocrities {I hate mediocrity!}

I make it my business to gather new ideas from sources outside my environment.

Success is the development of the power with which to get whatever I want in life without interfering with the rights of others.

A master mind is the sum total of all the minds in a group, coordinated, organized, and directed to a definite end in a spirit of harmonious cooperation.

The accumulation of great wealth and the attainment of any high status in life are based on the vision to comprehend and the ability to assimilate and apply principles.

There is nothing impossible with enough time. {How many of us quit too soon? I have, how about you?}

I know I am the real cause of any of my failures. {Quitting too soon}

The Law of Increasing Returns: I render more service that that for which I am paid and I am soon paid for more than I render. {I benefited from this jewel many times and did not know it had an actual name! I just called it reaping what I sowed! Galatians 6:6-8}

Failures teach me needed lessons

If you do not believe in cooperation, look what happens to a wagon that loses a wheel.

Master Mind: a mind that is developed through the harmonious cooperation of two of more people who ally themselves for the purpose of accomplishing any given task. {It would be nice if our current crop of politicians would take this to heart}

What people really purchase is not the merchandise but the pleasing personality of the person who knows the value of cultivating a pleasing personality.

My business in life is to achieve success.

Success is the attainment of my definite chief aim without violating the rights of other people.

A definite chief aim fixes my heart and mind onto a definite, well-conceived purpose as a life’s work

Self-confidence helps me master fear. My self-confidence is based on definite, usable knowledge. {Still working on this one}

The habit of saving teaches me how to distribute my income systematically so that a definite percentage will steadily accumulate.

No one can succeed in life without saving money. There is no exception to this rule. {Wish I was better at this one. But, then again, I wish our politicians were too!}

I take advantage of the law of increasing returns which ensures me a return in money far out of proportion to the service I render.

Concentration teaches me to focus my attention on one subject at a time until I have mastered it. {I am still working on focus!}

Tolerance teaches me to avoid the disastrous effects of racial and religious prejudices.

Intolerance makes enemies of those who should be friends.

Intolerance destroys opportunity. {Amen!}

The more I teach a subject the more I learn about the subject

Thoughts are energy

The only difference between thought, sound, heat or light is the number of vibrations per second.

In a Master Mind group, the energy of the individual minds surrounds the people who comprise the group.

Their energies interact and what results is something new and different.

Every effect must have a cause.

A Master Mind may be created through the coming together or blending in a spirit of perfect harmony, of two or more minds.

Such was the power of confidence in Ford’s ability. {I wonder what that would be in 2011 dollars?}

Knowledge, general in nature and unorganized, is not power

Knowledge is only potential power

Knowledge is the raw material out of which real power may be developed

Power is organized knowledge expressed through intelligent efforts

The source of all power is organized effort

Nature hates idleness in all forms

Nature gives continuous life only to those elements in use. {Use it or lose it!}

Power grows out of organized knowledge through application and use.

A person may become a walking encyclopedia of knowledge without possessing any power of value.

The knowledge becomes power only to the extent I organize it, classify it, and put it into action!

True education means mind development, not merely the gathering and classifying of knowledge.

Education consists of the power to get everything I need, when I need it, without violating the rights of others.

Ideas settle in the mind only after repetition {Which is why I re-read books}

It is a million times better to meet and face criticism than to be dragged down to failure and oblivion as a result of poor alliances. {I think critics count on not being confronted. I think that is one of the reasons Sarah Palin frustrates so many. She gets criticized regularly (and that is being polite, most of the time she is lied about), and just bounces back up with a smile on her face!}

Jesus fulfilled His destiny at the cross so I can fulfill mine today.

He opened the door for me and I am walking through it.

Until we meet, I am looking to the eastern sky and walking through the open door!

It started with lunch at the Downtown Diner. Sorry, didn’t get any pictures there.

Where I was sitting I couldn’t get a good view of the room.

But the room was full!

Lunch was followed by a drive through the historic part of town to view some historic homes that have been and are being restored.

Then, we headed to the country to Donald Weber’s garage.

The men got to view his latest project.

As usual, we ended up at Ron and Dorothy Bandelier’s for desert.

This year Dorothy surprised all the ladies with some vintage hats!

Great friends, great food, great fun! That is the way to start the New Year!

It is often said, “Oh I wish our leaders would follow what is in the Bible. Things would be so much better.”

Well, we have the political leaders we have because we elected them. We have the cultural leaders we have because we buy their books, go to their movies, listen to their music, watch their TV shows. May be we should start following Proverbs and our leaders would change.

Any way, that’s the view out my window today.
